2020-21 Season Grade= C+
Javonte Green was traded to the Chicago Bulls during the 2021 trade deadline. With minimal expectations, most people saw Javonte as nothing more than a benchwarmer or rotational piece at best.
During this season with Boston and Chicago, Javonte averaged 3.6 PPG, 1.7 RPG, 0.4 APG, 0.7 SPG, in 11.6 MPG, while playing in 41 games. Green averaged slightly more stats with Boston(1.6 PPG, 0.9 RPG, 0.1 SPG, while playing 5.8 more MPG). One stat that stands out is his +/-. This year in Boston his +/- was -1.6. After the trade, he had a 3.6+/-. Big improvement in just his little time away from Boston. While Green was on the court, he was greatly helping the team out.
Javonte Green struggled to get any minutes in his first few games with the Bulls. With the injury to Troy Brown Jr., it allowed Green to get minutes. Javonte brought energy and hustle onto the court whenever he was on the court.
Javonte Greens stats may not tell the whole story. Greens impact on the court is something that doesn’t always show up in the box scores. He brings a lot of physicality and explosiveness, especially defensively. His presence is felt on the court, and makes players around him better.
Javonte Green has shown a lot of promise in his short time with the Bulls, the only reason I can’t give a higher grade is we haven’t seen him play enough yet. Green is going to be a RFA this offseason, the Bulls will be able to match any offer he receives. The Bulls cap situation will be an interesting one this offseason, but we can hope Green is wearing a Bulls uniform next season.
